On In-Betweenies

MsStephanieCatherine identifies as an in-betweenie body shape: too big for many straight-size clothing stores, and at the smallest end of the plus-size clothing spectrum.

This is a subject of a lot of discussion in the fat-o-sphere, but here’s how it boils down at ALPW: comparative privilege is comparative.  Being able to get good office wear from Jacqui E, being able to usually get bras off-the-shelf (the eternal ordeal of fitting and cost aside), and a few lucky features like tiny feet and slim wrists make MsStephanieCatherine’s life a lot easier than those of bigger, fatter people.

At the same time, our society’s fat hatred is willing to go after the likes of Cameron Diaz and Christina Hendricksen.  None of us are safe.

Different sizes face different difficulties.  ALPW cannot be all things to all people, but in a perfect world, no one would have to be; there could be blogs for very short thin people and very tall fat people and very pear-shaped or very straight-up-and-down people.  If ALPW doesn’t work for you, try some of the blogs on the backrolls, or start your own if you have the spoons.
